    Fuel Economy

While the Jeep Compass has a better average fuel economy, it only saves you $15 more in gas than the Chevy Equinox annually (based on an average of 20,000 miles driven). So which vehicle really makes the greater difference?

With a gas tank that holds 5.2 more gallons of fuel than the Jeep Compass, the 2016 Chevy Equinox proves more efficient overall. In one year, the Equinox will save you 7 trips to refill your tank at the pump. This efficiency exemplifies Chevy’s belief that you should spend more time driving your vehicle and less time filling it up.

    Vehicle Safety

For enhanced safety, the front shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Equinox are height-adjustable, and the rear seat shoulder belts have child comfort guides to move the belt to properly fit children. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages children to buckle up. The Jeep Compass has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Equinox and Compass have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Equinox has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver’s seat and to know when they’re engaged. The Compass’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Equinox offers an optional collision warning system, which detects an impending crash through forward mounted sensors and flashes a bright light and sounds a loud, distinctive tone to warn the driver to brake or maneuver immediately to avoid a collision. The Compass doesn’t offer a collision warning system.

The Equinox’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The Compass doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Equinox’s optional blind spot warning system uses digital cameras monitored by computer to alert the driver to moving objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The Compass doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing safer, the Equinox’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Compass doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The Equinox has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Compass doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Equinox and the Compass have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, available all-wheel drive and rear parking sensors.

    Warranty Coverage

As is typical for all Chevy and Jeep cars, both the Equinox and the Compass feature 3-year/36,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Limited warranties. But in every other respect, the warranties that accompany the Chevy Equinox greatly surpass those of the Jeep Compass. The Chevy Equinox features 2 other warranties not offered by the Jeep Compass…

So what features does the Equinox have that the Compass has not? First, the Chevy Equinox comes with a Roadside Assistance Program. This program features the following services:

<> > Lockout Service – you will be assisted when you accidentally lock your keys inside the vehicle.

<> > Flat Tire Change – a spare will be installed for you.

<> > Fuel Delivery – If you run out of gas, $5 worth of fuel will be brought to you to get you back on the road.

<> > Emergency Towing – your car will be towed to your nearest dealer.

<> > Jump-Starts – you will be assisted if you need your car jump-started.

By including this Roadside Assistance Program as well as a 2-year Maintenance warranty, Chevy gives you two more reasons to choose the Equinox over the Compass. This impressive warranty coverage makes the 2016 Chevy Equinox the clear choice for ensured vehicle reliability, and it exemplifies Chevy’s dedication to you.

    Summary

The Chevy Equinox’s comparable fuel economy and its exceptional warranty coverage make it the clear choice over the Jeep Compass.
