While both the 2016 Chevy Malibu and the Hyundai Sonata have been designed to offer you better fuel economy than most cars out there, of the two, the Malibu’s fuel economy is far superior. Improved technology such as design and plastic gas tank will allow the Malibu to achieve better fuel economy while remaining a safer bet! Also, In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Malibu 1.5 Turbo’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Sonata doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Standard in Chevy and Hyundai cars, the Malibu includes a 3-year/36,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Limited warranty while the Sonata includes a 5-year/60,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty. The Chevy Malibu also has a 5-year/60,000-mile PowerTrain warranty while the Sonata has a 10-year/100,000-mile PowerTrain Warranty. Although Hyundai seems like the better option in these cases, Hyundai’s warranty plans are not transferrible while Chevy’s warranty plans are. This means that if you purchased a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and sold it to someone else before the warranty was up, the person who bought it would not receive the same warranty. Also, the 24 month maintenance on the 2016 Malibu, not offered for 2016 Hyundai Sonata, lowers the cost of ownership for Malibu buyers.
In addition, the Chevy Malibu features a 5-year/60,000-mile Roadside Assistance program. This program features the following services:
- Lockout Service – You will be assisted when you accidentally lock your keys inside the vehicle.

The Hyundai Sonata also features the Roadside Assistance Program. Unlike Chevy’s, this will keep your covered for 5 years or unlimited miles. This plan, like stated above, is also not transferrible for the Sonata. On top of that, the Chevy Malibu also includes a 2-year Maintenance warranty that the Hyundai Sonata does not.
