Fuel Economy

While the Dodge Journey has a larger fuel capacity than the Chevy Equinox (20.5 vs. 18.8 gallons), the Chevy Equinox has a much better gas mileage than the Journey.  The Eqinox has 3 more city and 6 more highway miles per gallon, making it last quite a bit longer on the road without having to have the tank refilled.

Vehicle Safety

Both the Equinox and Journey have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Equinox has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver’s seat and to know when they’re engaged. The Journey’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Equinox offers an optional collision warning system, which detects an impending crash through forward mounted sensors and flashes a bright light and sounds a loud, distinctive tone to warn the driver to brake or maneuver immediately to avoid a collision. The Journey doesn’t offer a collision warning system.

The Equinox’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The Journey doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Equinox’s optional blind spot warning system uses digital cameras monitored by computer to alert the driver to moving objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The Journey doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing safer, the Equinox’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Journey doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The Equinox has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Journey doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Equinox and the Journey have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, available all-wheel drive and rear parking sensors.

Warranty Coverage

As is typical for all Chevy and Dodge cars, both the Equinox and the Journey feature 3-year/36,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Limited warranties. But in every other respect, the warranties that accompany the Chevy Equinox greatly surpass those of the Dodge Journey. The Chevy Equinox features 2 other warranties not offered by the Dodge Journey…

So what features does the Equinox have that the Journey does not? First, the Chevy Equinox comes with a Roadside Assistance Program. This program features the following services:

<> > Lockout Service – you will be assisted when you accidentally lock your keys inside the vehicle.

<> > Flat Tire Change – a spare will be installed for you.

<> > Fuel Delivery – If you run out of gas, $5 worth of fuel will be brought to you to get you back on the road.

By including this Roadside Assistance Program as well as a 2-year Maintenance warranty, Chevy gives you two more reasons to choose the Equinox over the Journey. This impressive warranty coverage makes the 2017 Chevy Equinox the clear choice for ensured vehicle reliability, and it exemplifies Chevy’s dedication to you.
